Aesop
Aesop is a young male Marginated Tortoise who’s approximately 5-6 years old. He’s had some significant growth in the last year, so we think he’ll be at the larger end of his species’ size. He already measures 12-13” and is healthy and rambunctious! Aesop is growing into his male hormones, if ya know what I mean, and wouldn’t be a good candidate for anyone squeamish or uncomfortable frequently exposed to his male anatomy. 😅 He also has mild pyramiding of his carapace due to inadequate humidity, lighting, and habitat size in his early years. Subsequent neurological issues seem to have abated and he’s quite steady on his feet now!
This guy needs a large enclosure with a sizable outdoor paddock for the warmer months. They’re a Mediterranean species that span a large geographical region that includes dry and hot summers to moist, forested, and sometimes snowy environments. They require proper humidity, soil for burrowing, LOTS of natural sunlight and UVB and basking areas. This is a species that can and does brumate during colder months, unlike Sulcata that do not. He is a somewhat picky eater, but generally loves freshly foraged weeds and greens rather than a lot of store bought veggies. Dandelions are ALWAYS a hit.
