Gus
You may recognize Gus from our upstairs overwintering enclosure! It’s summer and the weather is great, so he and his homies are out at the farm catching rays. He’s an 11-12 year old Sulcata tortoise. He has severe MBD, pyramiding, stunted growth (he’s only a fraction of the size of a healthy tortoise of his age and species), and back leg weakness. He’s put on weight and has become MUCH stronger in the 7 months that we’ve had him. He’s brother to Jax. They were both raised together in a SMALL 3x3 enclosure with only pelleted food, no humidity, and no UVB.
Male tortoises do NOT cohabitate.
He will still require the same setup and habitat as a healthy Sulcata, but with an easier to access water feature due to his clumsy climbing skills.
Adopters must own their homes and property, have ample land for an outdoor enclosure AND an insulated, heated, well-lit overwintering accommodation. No wire/chain link fencing, no glass, no tanks, etc.
